We will be using the first two weeks to complete your trailers in class. After this time you will HAVE to come to the media room in your own time as two groups have been doing extensively. Their work has consequently improved hugely and this will be reflected in the mark that they gain.
Though time is short - you still have some left so please use it widely.
EXAM COURSE
Teaching for the exam course will begin the 23rd of January and run through till May. We will during this time however take breaks to refine and assemble your complete coursework portfolio including Assignments 1a&b, 2a&b and 3a&b.
Enjoy your holiday and see you all in the new year.
Today's lesson was focussed on getting you to think about your Assignment 3a and b. IMPORTANT FOR PROGRESS The area of development for the whole class is completion of tasks and ensuring that you are preparing for the filming which is due to take place in only 3 weeks time. PLANNING OF SHOOT I will be sending you a letter about filming in the next couple of weeks which will identify the days I will be here in school during half term, when I recommend that you shoot the majority of your project. If you are not able to complete work during this window you will find it extremely difficult to catch up. NEXT WEEK There will be a class next week for all who are NOT going on the Geography field trip and for those who are, you must make sure that you continue to work on the supporting portfolio which I gave you a check list for at the beginning of term. HW.
Continue work on check list
Especially important - create a storyboard for your trailer
Decide locations, casting and schedule (when you are going to film)
WELCOME BACK
I noticed from the traffic on the blog that a few of you have been checking in and are probably eargre to know what is happening this coming term.
The letter below explains all. Please download it and print it for your parents.
GCSE Year 9 Sep12
For those of you who may have difficulty with it here is the text of the letter.
7th September 2012
Dear Parent / Carer
Second year of GCSE Media Studies for Year 10 students
After a successful first year of the Extra Curricula Media Studies GCSE course for high achieving year 9 into 10 students, it is now time to return with renewed focus and concentration for year 2.
LESSONS
There has been a change to the day on which lessons will be running from Wednesday to Tuesday and the first class will be on Tuesday the 11th of September from 3.20-4.50 in C1. Please ensure that you are prompt and come with equipment and work.
ATTENDANCE
It is vital that students maintain 100% attendance and are also prepared to use additional time after school to complete Assignment 3 productions if they are to achieve the highest levels.
ASSIGNMENTS and EXAM
In this year we will be completing the Controlled Assessments and preparing for next June’s exam. This will entail considerable commitment from the students if they are to be successful and achieve the highest grades.
Most students have completed Assignment 1 and 2, though there are some who have yet to complete their creative tasks for Assignment 2b. Finishing these and ensuring all other assignments are of the highest standard will be a priority for the first two weeks of term.
Assignment 3 productions will be made this term, a full schedule for this will be drawn up during the next few weeks but all students should be aware that these moving image productions entail additional work beyond the classroom time if students are to reach the higher levels. We will be offering a production day in the November half term to support this and C1 will be available to students through a booking system.
The Exam in June 2013 will be on the Music Press (both print and online) and the full course for this will begin in January 2013. Students can prepare for this by becoming more familiar with the Music industry by reading around the topic.
Kind regards

Our lesson on Wednesday will take place as usual in C1.
This is the last lesson when I will be able to give you time to complete your Adverts.
As you know from next week these need to be complete so that we can enter them into the competition and so that you can begin your Assignment 2.
You will find on the Assignment 2 page a lot of resources regarding this and your home learning this week will be to read through these in preparation for next weeks lessons.
Finally, a reminder that if you have NOT completed either element of Assignment 1 please do so ASAP and ensure that I have them in a form which can be printed easily or better still print them yourself but make sure that your name is on them. Once again, if you want to improve these taking into account the exemplars on the Assignment 1 pages please do so. It is not too late to make a difference.
Once I have them all, I will be giving Media levels.
Finally, there will be more tutorials on Wednesday to ensure that you are all up to date and clear about how you are progressing.
First lesson of the term will be devoted to work on your adverts. Please come prepared with all props and costumes and expect to work independently for the duration of the class. Adverts need to be completed to submit by the 20th January.
Also, please remember that Assignment 1a should now be complete and delivered in the form shown on the ASSIGNMENT 1 page - remember that I have given you every detail about what should be included, denotation and connotations and don't forget the discuss audience. Word limit 500 words for both 1a and 1b - suggested 350 on a and 150 on b.
